Abby Yang | Communication Designer & Visual Information Specialist
Abby Yang is a Taiwanese communication designer and researcher currently based in the Netherlands. Born in 2000, she holds a Master of Arts in Information Design from Design Academy Eindhoven (2023–2025) and a Bachelor of Arts with First Class Honours in Communication Design from The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (2019–2023). Her practice operates at the intersection of graphic design, editorial experimentation, and material exploration, often focusing on the translation of complex narratives into visual forms. Throughout her body of work, Abby Yang investigates the relationship between archival materials and contemporary identity. A prominent example is her project 'After Handing Over the Horses,' which employs a psychoanalytic reading of historical Taiwanese paintings to explore the lasting effects of authoritarianism. Another significant work, 'Hey Body: In Times of Counter Enquiry,' received recognition as a Student Runner Up at the Core77 Design Awards 2024. This speculative project examines the tension between algorithmic technology and the physical human body through a fictional exhibition and publication titled 'Enquiry Record.' In addition to her independent research, Abby Yang has gained professional experience through internships at Victionary in Hong Kong and 2byWu&Chen in Taiwan, as well as rebranding projects with PolyU Technology and Consultancy. Her diverse portfolio includes projects such as 'Made Out of Cuts,' 'Into the Windowland,' and 'Disclosing the Enclosed,' which explore themes of curiosity, memory, and the conceptual border. Through her editorial and web design work, she continues to push the boundaries of how information is visualized and communicated in the 21st century.
