Antonia Alarcón - Visual Arts, Textile Research and Contemporary Narratives

Antonia Alarcón is a prominent visual artist, writer, and researcher based in Mexico City, originally from Santiago de Chile. Her artistic practice is deeply invested in the exploration of textile mediums, focusing on themes such as non-human migratory processes and sustainable textile practices. Antonia Alarcón often bridges the gap between agroecology and contemporary art, creating works that serve as spaces for dialogue and reflection on the relationship between humanity and the natural world. Educated at the Escuela Nacional de Pintura, Escultura y Grabado “La Esmeralda” in Mexico and the Iceland Academy of the Arts in Reykjavik, Antonia Alarcón has developed a sophisticated technical command over embroidery and writing. Her work has been recognized with prestigious awards, including the Jóvenes Creadores scholarship from FONCA and the acquisition prize at the Encuentro Nacional de Arte Joven 2025. The portfolio of Antonia Alarcón includes notable solo and group exhibitions internationally, such as the Contextile Biennial in Portugal and shows at the Museo de Arte Carrillo Gil. Through her intricate narratives and visual research, Antonia Alarcón continues to push the boundaries of textile art, weaving together memory, empathy, and environmental consciousness into a cohesive and impactful artistic vision.
