Bahar Gokten's creative work

Bahar Gokten | Photographer and Visual Artist

Bahar Gokten (b. 1985, Istanbul) began her artistic journey driven by a curiosity about ways of perception and continues her practice as a visual storyteller. Rather than the detached gaze of an outsider, her practice unfolds from within experience itself, valuing process as much as outcome. Engaging with social injustice, the divine feminine, and modes of relationality, her work explores layered narratives guided by intuition. She received her Bachelor of Arts in Photography and Video from Istanbul Bilgi University, during which she participated in an Erasmus Exchange Program at Avans University of Applied Sciences in Breda, the Netherlands. She later completed the Documentary Photography Program at Galata Fotografhanesi Academy of Photography. Since 2009, she has maintained an independent practice as a freelance photographer and visual artist, developing concept-driven visual narratives and interdisciplinary projects. In 2020, she co-founded Studio Vivente in Izmir, an interdisciplinary art space where she serves as Founding Coordinator and Creative Director, shaping its conceptual framework and artistic direction. Her interests extend across sculpture, land art, ancient healing practices, and permaculture, reflecting a holistic approach to creativity and living. At the core of her practice lies a belief in interconnectedness.
