Daniel Martinez's creative work

Daniel Martinez | Visual Artist

Daniel Martinez (b. 1995, Barcelona, Spain) is a visual artist based in Switzerland, whose practice reflects upon environmental transformation and political ecologies in an era of global shifts. Working at the intersection of scientific knowledge, history, and “nature”, Martinez employs a conceptual, investigative approach that combines cross-disciplinary media. From a critical perspective, his work explores alternative epistemologies and questions dominant narratives to expand the comprehension of the environment, the sense of inhabiting it. He holds a Master’s in Design (Photography) from ECAL Lausanne, and a Postgraduate Degree in Documentary Photography from IDEP Barcelona, complemented by specialised training in graphic design and mountain guiding. Martinez has also participated in international seminars and workshops, including Plano Negativo’s “Forensic Architecture in Latin America”, Institute for Postnatural Studies’ “New Ecologies: Decentralizing the human through contemporary practices”, and “Speculative Documentary Photography” with Max Pinckers. His work has been presented at major venues and festivals, including Les Rencontres d’Arles, Swiss Photomonth, Verzasca Foto Festival, and Fotofestiwal Lodz. Projects have been featured in PhMuseum, Yogurt Magazine, Altar Magazine, and presented at Offprint Paris, Offprint London, and Pla(t)form Fotomuseum Winterthur. Central in his practice, Martinez books have been shortlisted in Kassel Dummy Award and acquired by museums collections, including PhotoBookMuseum, Cologne and Deichtorhallen, Hamburg.
