Darwin Erazo | Visual Artist and Painter of Philosophical and Spiritual Themes
Darwin Erazo is a dedicated visual artist whose creative journey bridges his roots in Ibarra, Ecuador, with the vibrant contemporary art scene of New York City. Born in February 1971 in the Andean region of South America, Darwin Erazo began his formal training at the Institute of Plastic Arts Daniel Reyes in San Antonio de Ibarra. This foundational education nurtured his technical skills and artistic voice before he relocated to New York in the early 1990s. Since then, his practice has evolved to encompass a wide range of media, including oil paintings, drawings, printmaking, pastels, digital art, and mixed media. The art of Darwin Erazo is deeply rooted in philosophical and spiritual exploration. He seeks to communicate profound messages through the technical mastery of his tools, often focusing on the interplay of colors, shapes, vibrations, and frequencies. His artist statement reflects a fascination with how the human mind rediscovers itself within these elements, perceiving the transmission of energy and the diversity of cosmic effects. Darwin Erazo interprets the cosmos as a large-scale reproduction of these frequencies, creating one-of-a-kind visual transmissions that invite viewers to explore the intricacies of the human experience. A significant milestone in his career includes his debut as a printmaker at the Latin American Triennial in 2021. Darwin Erazo continues to actively participate in solo and group exhibitions, collaborating with art fairs and galleries worldwide to foster dialogue through his visionary work. Currently based in New York, he remains committed to producing new works that reflect his ongoing exploration of energy sources and the illuminated moments of life.
