Julienne Dolphin Wilding: Sculptural Ceramic Forms and Environmental Art
Julienne Dolphin Wilding is a British artist and maker whose practice is deeply rooted in environmental concerns and the transformation of industrial waste into art. Based in Neapolis, Crete, she operates from a studio constructed from recycled shipping containers, set within a five-acre olive grove at the beginning of the Havgas gorge. Her work spans several disciplines including ceramics, site-specific sculpture, furniture design, and interiors. Central to her ceramic practice are unique handmade forms and sculptural vessels that often incorporate recycled materials sourced from industrial production. These pieces reflect a commitment to sustainability and durability, often breathing new life into materials that would otherwise be discarded. Her work has been recognized for its innovative use of waste and aesthetic contribution to contemporary British design, featuring in international design publications and auctions. In addition to her personal artistic practice, Julienne Dolphin Wilding is the founder of Event Horizon, an artist-in-residency program established in 2018. This initiative provides a private creative space and retreat for artists, musicians, and researchers to produce and experiment within the natural Cretan landscape. Through her work and the residency, she fosters a community focused on the intersection of art, ecology, and the environment.
