Eternal Forest: Multidisciplinary Art and 1000 Sanctuary Forests
Eternal Forest is a global multidisciplinary art project and organization committed to establishing 1,000 forest sanctuaries across the world to be protected for 1,000 years. Founded by artist Evgenia Emets in 2018, the project operates at the intersection of contemporary art, ecology, and community practice. Eternal Forest utilizes a unique conceptual framework to transform the human relationship with nature from extractive to regenerative, encouraging participants to think in 'deep time'—scales of centuries rather than years. The initiative achieves its goals through art residencies, multidisciplinary collaborations with scientists, and the creation of site-specific artworks including films, artist books, and visual calligraphy. These activities serve as a catalyst for local communities to become guardians of the land, ensuring biodiversity and forest protection. By building a replicable blueprint for these sanctuaries, Eternal Forest aims to leave a permanent ecological and cultural legacy. Each sanctuary is envisioned as both a biological haven and a sacred space where ritual, storytelling, and art facilitate a profound connection to the earth. Through its growing network of partners and community-led 'Circles of Guardians,' the project continues to expand its impact, bridging the gap between artistic vision and practical conservation to preserve old-growth forests for future generations.
