Martin James Tickner's creative work

GALLERY46 Independent Contemporary Art Gallery. Artistic Director Martin J Tickner.

GALLERY46 is a contemporary independent art gallery located in Whitechapel, London. Established in September 2016 by gallery Director Martin J Tickner with 90's DAZED alumni Martin Bell and Wai Hung Young and Lebenson Gallery founder Stefan Lebenson. Housed in a pair of renovated Georgian houses within the grounds of Whitechapel Hospital, the gallery spans 2 floors and eight rooms, offering a kaleidoscopic addition to the local art scene. GALLERY46 supports a wide range of new and upcoming artists alongside internationally established names, maintaining a non-conformist curatorial approach. The gallery has hosted diverse exhibitions and multi-disciplinary events, including solo and group shows featuring hundreds of artists including Tom Hunter, Sara Berman, Jake Chapman, Gavin Turk, Polly Morgan, Roxana Halls, Gina Birch. It is known for its involvement in major cultural events such as Art Night London and collaborations with the nearby Whitechapel Gallery. In addition to traditional visual arts, GALLERY46 explores innovative media, hosting immersive VR — notably Bjork's 'Notget'— and film premieres. The space serves as a exceptional hub for creativity, fostering cross-cultural dialogues and pushing the boundaries of traditional art curation in East London.
