Guilherme Pontes's creative work

Guilherme Pontes: Contemporary Fine Art, Photography and Printmaking

Guilherme Pontes is a multidisciplinary artist and designer whose practice is deeply rooted in philosophical inquiry and the study of the image as an independent entity. Born in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, his academic journey took him to San Francisco, where he earned a BFA in Graphic Design from the Academy of Art University, and later to Melbourne, Australia, for an MA in Communications Design at Swinburne University of Technology. After a decade in branding and commercial design, Pontes shifted his focus entirely to his personal art, seeking to integrate his creative output with his passion for philosophy. Currently operating from his Lisbon-based studio, Estúdio Trama – Estúdio de Artes Impressas, which he co-founded, Pontes works across photography, painting, and various printmaking techniques, particularly silkscreen and linocut. His portfolio includes series inspired by the writings of Friedrich Nietzsche, such as 'Thus Spoke Zarathustra,' and essays exploring the world as Will and Representation through the lens of Schopenhauer and Kant. His visual work often captures the essence of diverse global locations, including New York, Paris, and Nepal, while maintaining a consistent focus on the collapse of space into two-dimensional artistic projections. Through his studio, he also provides a collaborative environment for other artists, further enriching the cultural landscape of Lisbon.
