Guillemette Ridet: Visual Artist and Book Designer
Guillemette Ridet is a French visual artist and book designer who lives and works in Brussels. After earning a DNA in Fine Arts at the ESADTPM in Toulon, she graduated from the Book Design workshop at ENSAV La Cambre in 2020. This academic background laid the foundation for her exploration of the book and its technical processes as a potent artistic medium. Since late 2023, Ridet has established her practice at the Ateliers Mommen artist residency. The artistic work of Guillemette Ridet is characterized by a constant interplay between object design, plastic creation, and textual production. She frequently operates at the intersection of editorial and sculptural forms, viewing the book as a sensitive and modular rhizomatic structure. This perspective informs how she deploys her work within physical spaces, often moving toward installation art. Her research focuses on concepts of fragility, persistence, composition, and polysémie, treating each piece as an autonomous entity while maintaining a poetic dialogue within a broader network. Her creative process is deeply rooted in a specific relationship with time and slowness. By emphasizing temporality in both the making and the reception of her work, Guillemette Ridet encourages a renewed attention to detail and poetic wandering. Her portfolio includes notable projects such as Si ça vibre, Il y a dans ces espaces une latence, and Espèces d'espaces. Additionally, she is an active member of the Bureau des Affaires de l'Ombre, a collective dedicated to mutual aid among artists and art students.
