Qikai Guo's creative work

Guo Qikai | Contemporary Painting and Surreal Visual Art

Guo Qikai is a contemporary artist born in Kunming, China, currently living and working between Venice, Italy, and Kunming. As a deaf artist who relies on a cochlear implant, Guo Qikai explores themes of silence, darkness, and communicative urgency through a distinct pictorial language. His work is characterized by dream-like representations of thoughts, fears, and a powerful spiritual dimension that merges past experiences with present reality. Guo Qikai holds a Master's degree with honors from the Academy of Fine Arts in Venice, where he developed his style of using abstract shapes and enigmatic figures to convey profound iconological meanings. His paintings often feature a search for balance between light and shadow, inspired by the yin and yang philosophy. Guo Qikai has participated in numerous international exhibitions, including the Mestre Painting Award, the Bevilacqua La Masa Foundation's young artist collectives, and residencies with NoName Studio in Shanghai. His art serves as a bridge between Chinese and Italian cultural contexts, creating surreal microcosms that invite viewers on a personal journey through his unique sensory experience.
