Gurkan Mihci: Digital Media Artist

Gurkan Maruf Mh, PhD, is an interdisciplinary artist, working at the intersections of creative technology and critical theory to interrogate complex topics in science, politics, and ecology. Mihci merges these concepts to create imaginary worlds, games, and satires. His artworks and installations incorporate video, sound, Gen A.I., and data visualization to reshape artistic practices that engage audiences with the urgent issues of our time. His work has been presented in international exhibitions and festivals such as Apartment Project (Berlin), Bilsart (Istanbul), Gallery 924 (Indianapolis), Maquis Projects (Izmir), Agitator (Chicago), Gallery 263 (Boston), 35 Festival Les Instants Video (Marseille/Milan), ALC Video Art Festival (Alicante), CuVo Video Art Festival (Madrid), Vertifilms Film Festival (Prague), and Miami New Media Festival (Miami and Tchira). He has contributed extensively to academic discourse through publications and presentations such as; Architecture, Media, Politics, Society (London), 30th International Congress on Sound and Vibration (Amsterdam), International Archaeoacoustics Conference (Istanbul), Invisible Places Conference (Azores), FATE [Serious Play] Conference (Denver), Design History Society 2021 Memory Full? (Basel), and Italian Cinema & Media Studies Conference (Rome). In 2016, he was an artist in residence on Greenpeace’s Rainbow Warrior Ship , where he collaborated with engineers on projects engaged with sustainable energy. His contributions to contemporary new media art have been recognized with awards from The Christel DeHaan Family Foundation and Indy Arts Council, Art-X Gallery Innovation, and IU Presidential Arts and Humanities Awards.
