Hatiye Garip: Illustration, Comics, and Accessible Visual Design
Hatiye Garip is an illustrator, comic artist, and designer originally from Istanbul, Turkey, and currently based in Cologne, Germany. Her creative practice is characterized by a focus on social and environmental issues, accessibility, and the depiction of playful, ordinary moments like birds and flowers. As a disabled artist and DAAD doctoral fellow, Hatiye Garip conducts extensive research on accessible comics and graphic medicine, aiming to make visual storytelling more inclusive for all audiences. Her project, Accessible Lines, specifically addresses the need for accessible illustrations by bridging international creative communities. Hatiye Garip has worked with prestigious clients such as The Washington Post, BBC Radio 4, and various children’s book publishers. Her portfolio encompasses a wide range of media, including editorial illustration, pattern design, zines, and interactive workshops like Playful Panels. Through her vibrant and empathetic visual language, Hatiye Garip creates impactful narratives that advocate for social change and community engagement. Her work has been exhibited in numerous countries including the UK, USA, and across Europe, reflecting her influence in the global contemporary art and design landscape.
