La Traverse: Multidisciplinary Contemporary Art and Design Space
La Traverse is a multifaceted contemporary art and design space situated in the Malmousque neighborhood of Marseille, France. Established by renowned curator and former Brussels gallery owner Catherine Bastide, the organization operates out of a historic southern-style house that was meticulously renovated in 2020 by Marion Bernard Architectes. The space functions as a hybrid project combining a curatorial platform, an associative art gallery, and a multidisciplinary artist residency program. The architecture and interior of La Traverse are integral to its identity, featuring a permanent concrete kitchen installation by artist Régis Jocteur Monrozier on the ground floor. The upper levels include a guest room, 'La Petite Terrasse,' furnished with upcycled pieces created from salvaged maritime materials by the Marseille-based collective Ateliers Laissez Passer. Focusing on emerging talent and international cultural exchange, La Traverse hosts diverse exhibitions, performances, and culinary experiences with a strong emphasis on ecological and economic responsibility. It serves as a vital link between the creative scene in Marseille and the global art world, fostering a community of artists, curators, and visitors within its unique domestic and professional setting.
