Manuel Hernández Ruiz: Contemporary Painting and Multidisciplinary Art
Manuel Hernández Ruiz is a Colombian contemporary artist born in 1986, currently living and working in Athens, Greece. His artistic practice is defined by a multidisciplinary approach that includes painting, drawing, and the creation of physical objects using materials such as wood, clay, and cardboard. Manuel Hernández Ruiz describes his creative process as one of sporadic demonstrations, where his brush often declares independence from original plans, allowing the essence of a work to reveal itself in unexpected ways. His art is deeply rooted in themes of the psyche and context, often incorporating symbols and narrative fragments that invite viewers to interpret a larger, intuitive whole. Having studied at the School of Fine Arts at Pontificia Universidad Javeriana, Manuel Hernández Ruiz has developed a significant exhibition record with solo shows like Autopoiesis and Conversations with the Monster at SGR Galería in Bogotá, and Mantra at Chili Art Gallery in Athens. His work also extends into the realm of sequential art and independent publishing, with projects such as Gusano de Tierra and Badlands. Influenced by concepts like the Overview effect, the work of Manuel Hernández Ruiz seeks to reconcile subjective visions into a unified artistic perspective.
