Maria Magdalena David's creative work

Maria Magdalena David: Visual Artist and Scenographer Portfolio

Maria Magdalena David is a visual artist and scenographer who has developed a multi-disciplinary practice rooted in the design of spaces, immersive installations, and soundscapes. Trained in fine arts and scenography at the Pavillon Bosio in Monaco, she explores the sensitive relationships between the body, movement, and space. Her work encompasses autonomous artworks as well as scenography for high-profile exhibitions and fashion shows. A core element of her practice is the exploration of temporality and the metamorphosis of atmospheres. Maria Magdalena David utilizes the visitor’s journey and the duration of events as tangible materials, allowing environments to mutate through the precise use of light, sound, and the actions of performers or spectators. Her approach is characterized by a meticulous attention to residues, fragments, and organic debris collected from the everyday environment, which serve as foundations for her spatial narratives. Her notable projects include Hubert Clerissi: Chiseled Spaces and the Women are Beautiful exhibition, where she creates a dialogue between architecture and the audience. Maria Magdalena David’s designs invite an unstable perception, oscillating between comfort and discomfort, familiarity and strangeness, effectively turning space into an experiential environment to be inhabited and roamed.
