Marina Chisty's creative work

Marina Chisty: Contemporary Abstract Art

Marina Chisty is a Russian-born, New York-based artist whose creative practice is deeply rooted in the exploration of transformation, impermanence, and the delicate balance between control and surrender. Currently pursuing an MFA at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and based in New York City, Marina Chisty creates large-scale abstract and figurative paintings that serve as both a record of time and an event of material interaction. Her work is significantly influenced by New Materialism and Eastern philosophy, where she treats materials like water, pigment, charcoal, and acrylic as collaborators rather than mere tools. This process-oriented approach results in evocative compositions reminiscent of geological forms, eroded surfaces, and shifting inner landscapes. Marina Chisty first developed her artistic foundation in Russia before moving to the United States, where she furthered her education with an MA from Fordham University and studies at the Art Students League of New York. Her earlier collections, such as 'Female Faces' and 'Introspective Impressions,' highlighted her focus on the human condition and the symbolic use of color. Transitioning into abstraction, her recent solo exhibition 'Fragments of Now' at the Milostka Center for Exhibitions demonstrates her continued commitment to investigating the instability of liminal spaces. Marina Chisty's art practice frequently challenges socio-economic and physical barriers, emphasizing a universal need for mutual support and equal perspective. Her paintings are held in numerous private collections internationally and have been featured at major art fairs including Art Basel Miami and Art Monaco.
