Marko Gavrilovic: Contemporary Art, Light Sculptures and Paintings
Marko Gavrilovic is a Belgrade-based contemporary artist whose multidisciplinary practice includes painting, sculpture, and drawing. Born in 1975, he graduated from the Academy of Applied Arts and Design and has since developed a distinct style characterized by Urban Expressionism and biomorphic forms. Gavrilovic is particularly recognized for his Light within series and plastic sculptural lighting forms, which bridge the gap between fine art and industrial design. His work often investigates the relationship between human civilization and the natural world, depicting hybrid cities, stylized animal motifs like bulls and sharks, and complex geometric structures. Gavrilovic’s art has been showcased internationally, representing Serbia at the 2010 FIFA World Cup fine art exhibition and the 2015 Milan EXPO. His creative process involves assembling polished Plexiglas scraps into puzzle-like sculptures that are often illuminated from within. With over 16 solo exhibitions and 80 group shows in cities like Paris, Los Angeles, and New York, Marko Gavrilovic remains a prominent figure in the Serbian art scene. His works are held in various private and public collections, reflecting his ongoing exploration of light, form, and the evolution of urban landscapes.
