Maryam Behrouzinia (Iran,1994) a visual artist whose practice unfolds through site-specific projects, focusing on the relationship between space, material, and lived experience. My background in architecture has strongly shaped my spatial and structural approach, leading me to begin each project through an awareness of space, the body, and time. The conceptual core of my work revolves around themes such as the passage of time, memory, loss, and the possibility of coexistence—concepts rooted in my personal experiences, particularly my encounter with grief. These experiences have led me to question the relationship between the past and present of places, objects, and structures: does time cause erosion, or does it allow for forms of coexistence and transformation to emerge? In my projects, I work with a range of media including installation, video, photography, drawing, and printmaking. For me, materials carry memory and time, and gain meaning through their interaction with space. My works have been realized in diverse contexts, including natural landscapes, abandoned buildings, and historical, cultural, and industrial sites. I aim to create a dialogue between the artwork, the space, and the viewer one that invites a spatial, embodied experience and opens space for reflection on presence, absence, and change. Ultimately, my work is an ongoing attempt to uncover invisible connections between past and present, inner and outer worlds, and to transform space into a platform for a shared, living experience.
