Micael de Leeuw: Visual Artist Specializing in Textile Art
Micael de Leeuw is a visual artist and researcher based in Stockholm, Sweden. His artistic practice is centered on the exploration of technological processes in motion, using repetition as both a methodology and a core thematic element. De Leeuw is particularly interested in the fluid relationship between analog and digital modes of creation, often working at the intersection of these coexisting systems to navigate the material world. His educational background includes a Bachelor’s degree in Textile from Konstfack University of Arts, Crafts & Design, as well as studies in painting at Idun Lovén’s Art School. This multidisciplinary foundation allows him to engage with textile art through a contemporary lens, incorporating shifts and discontinuities that propel his work forward. Micael de Leeuw’s portfolio features solo exhibitions such as Diskontinuiteter at POM Gallery and Riche Fenix, along with numerous group shows across Sweden. His commitment to process-led discovery and the acquisition of new technical skills is evident in his evolving body of work, which has been recognized with cultural grants from the City of Stockholm and the Kurt Persson Memorial Fund. By focusing on the embodied nature of repetitive acts and the friction of materials, Micael de Leeuw creates evocative pieces that challenge the boundaries between physical craft and abstract technological evolution.
