Miyouki Nakajima: Textile Art and Sculptural Floral Creations
Miyouki Nakajima is a Japanese visual artist and plasticienne based in Paris, renowned for her intricate creations of flowers and plants using natural textiles, particularly silk. Her artistic practice, deeply rooted in the philosophy of nature's impermanence, involves crafting sculptural objects and floral parures that transcend mere decoration to become poetic explorations of time and memory. Miyouki Nakajima founded her studio, SOIE:LABO, in 2013, where she develops unique pieces for fashion, interior decoration, and artistic exhibitions. Her technique is a refined fusion of historical craftsmanship and contemporary artistry; she employs traditional Japanese methods such as Sumi (ink), Kinzoku-Fun (metal powders), and Iwa-Enogu (mineral pigments) to color and texture her textile works. Having worked as an artistic director in Japan before relocating to France, she collaborates with prestigious houses and galleries, including Galerie Sinople and Boucheron, for whom she created bespoke interior installations. The work of Miyouki Nakajima is characterized by a lyrical sensitivity, capturing the fragile beauty of nature through self-taught mastery and a commitment to preserving and renewing the heritage of artificial flower making. Based in Paris, her studio serves as a laboratory for these delicate botanical sculptures.
