Nicolina Stylianou: Multidisciplinary Artist and Cultural Producer

Nicolina Stylianou is a prominent multidisciplinary artist, curator, and cultural producer who works across the fields of contemporary art, live performance, and sound design. Based between Nicosia, Cyprus, and Helsinki, Finland, Nicolina Stylianou has developed a unique artistic language centered around the concept of 'body-sculptures.' These are hybrid instruments that merge sculpture with sound technology, designed to be worn or interacted with during live performances. Her research focuses on instrument mechanics, materiality, and the ways in which objects can extend or disturb the human sensory experience. Nicolina Stylianou holds a Master of Arts in Theatre and Drama from the University of the Arts Helsinki and a Bachelor of Arts in Art and Design from Kingston University London. Her career includes significant roles as a curator and founder of projects such as Sensorium Space, which facilitates happenings in the live art scene. She has also completed prestigious residencies, including work at Thinker Maker Space within the CYENS Centre of Excellence, where she developed the 'Inflated Liquidities' project. Her portfolio includes notable works such as 'Layers of Skin,' 'True Pass,' 'Conjoined Fugues,' and 'Mind Split = Siamese Twins.' Through these projects, Nicolina Stylianou investigates how the body is represented in social systems and how movement and pressure can translate into acoustic oscillations. Her practice often involves a blend of autobiography, philosophy, and digital fabrication techniques. As a cultural producer, she actively contributes to the international art community through workshops, exhibitions, and curatorial interventions that bridge the gap between traditional craftsmanship and new media technologies.
