Rossella Schiavini Contemporary Sculpture and Ceramic Art
Rossella Schiavini is an Italian contemporary sculptor whose practice centers on the exploration of the feminine form through the medium of ceramic and stoneware. Operating from her "aRtelier" studio in the village of Egro, Cesara, overlooking Lake Orta, Schiavini creates works that serve as a manifesto of sensuality and eroticism. Her aesthetic is defined by curvaceous, organic shapes that prioritize the beauty of form over functional utility. Self-taught but extensively trained through workshops at the London Art Academy and with master ceramists like Guido De Zan, her technique involves hand-building using slab and coiling methods. She often integrates natural elements, such as wood sourced from the forests surrounding her studio, into her stoneware pieces. This dialogue between materials reflects her interest in the integration of differences and the metaphysical aspects of architecture. Rossella Schiavini has gained international recognition, exhibiting at prestigious events like 1000 Vases in Paris and The Other Art Fair in London. Her work has been honored with awards, including first prize at the Oristano Ceramic Centre. Her sculptures, often fired at high temperatures in neutral, earthy tones, invite viewers to reflect on the relationship between concave and convex spaces, embodying a primitive yet modern artistic vision.
