Serena Salerno: Analog Photographer Capturing Human Emotion
Serena Salerno is a photographer and visual artist whose work is rooted in the tradition of analog film and intimate portraiture. Born in 1991 in Torre Annunziata, Naples, she discovered photography at 18 through her father's cameras, quickly embracing analog as her primary medium. She studied photography at Ilas Designer School in Naples, lived and worked in Milan and Rome refining her technical expertise before relocating to Paris in January 2022. Her artistic practice focuses primarily on women and their bodies, through which she explores her own femininity. Photography has become an integral part of her daily life, almost a form of documentation: her visual language ranges from spontaneous portraits to intimate reportage and nudes. Defined by simplicity and natural light, she often captures subjects in their own homes to preserve authenticity and intimacy. Her work spans both fashion and fine art photography. Over the years, she has been featured in various international publications, both print and online, and has exhibited in solo and group shows. Beyond her personal artistic projects, she works with commercial clients and private commissions drawn to her distinctive style. In the past year, she has also dedicated herself to wedding photography, shot exclusively on film with the same intimate reportage approach that defines her work. Operating between Paris, the South of France, and Italy, Serena Salerno finds depth in the subtle details of everyday life and the organic textures of film.
