Sophie Krier: Artistic Research and Relational Ecological Practice
Sophie Krier is an artist and researcher based in The Hague. Her practice focuses on 'acupuncture of place' and mending relationships between beings and environments through relational art. Sophie Krier is the founder of the School of Verticality, a nomadic learning program, and the director of Field Essays, a book series enabling dialogue across diverse disciplines. Her work often involves fieldwork, editorial design, and social practice, exploring themes of ecology, spirituality, and ancestral gestures. Sophie Krier has led curricula at the Design Academy Eindhoven and Rietveld Academy, and continues to facilitate workshops and collaborative research projects internationally. Her recent initiatives include 'Learning with Horses' and the 'In Search of the Pluriverse' podcast. Through these multifaceted roles, Sophie Krier promotes a culture of presence, listening, and situated knowledge, bridging the gap between artistic inquiry and environmental stewardship. She collaborates extensively with local communities and experts to create site-specific installations and publications that reflect on our shared existence, often using somatic grounding practices to translate fieldwork into visual and textile marks.
