Takayuki Mori: Japanese artist / Sculpture, Light, Installation, Moving Image
Takayuki Mori is a prominent Japanese visual artist whose work investigates the intersection of technology, materiality, and human perception. Based in Okayama, Takayuki Mori creates immersive installations that challenge how the brain processes visual information. By utilizing light, transparent materials, and fluorescent threads visible only under ultraviolet light, he seeks to eliminate physical materiality, allowing viewers to experience the fluid transition between digital and analogue states. Takayuki Mori's practice often involves 3D scanning and printing, where he transforms physical objects into digital wireframes—triangulated mesh structures—before bringing them back into the physical realm as intricate sculptures. This process emphasizes his interest in the relationship between virtual and real spaces. His notable works, such as the 'View Tracing' series and the 'Memento' installation, have been featured in international festivals including Noor Riyadh, Murten Licht-Festival, and Smart Illumination Yokohama. Recognized for his innovation, Takayuki Mori received the Special Award at the 23rd Exhibition of the Taro Okamoto Award for Contemporary Arts. His work continues to evolve through prestigious residencies and global exhibitions, bridging the gap between traditional sculpture and cutting-edge digital media to redefine our connection with the perceived environment.
