Thomas Francia: Documentary Photographer and Photo Restorer
Thomas Francia is a professional photographer and photo restorer based in Reggio Emilia and Bologna, Italy. He holds a Master’s degree in Photography from the Academy of Fine Arts in Bologna (2020) and a previous degree in Art Graphics (2017). Thomas Francia developed a dedicated interest in documentary photography and reportage at the age of 19, focusing his lens on social and environmental issues. From 2018 to 2022, Thomas Francia served as a photographer for a national newspaper in Bologna, refining his skills in press and journalistic photography. Currently, he works as a restorer for historical photographic funds at ISTORECO, where he preserves visual heritage through technical expertise. His documentary projects, which frequently address ecological and human themes, have been published in national and international magazines and online platforms. Thomas Francia has received notable recognition for his work, including second place in the Young Art Award at Arte-Fiera 2020. His exhibition history includes shows such as 'Long Island Ice Tea,' 'Flows, images from the Sarno River,' and 'Magic, a Beyond Experience.' In 2023, he was selected by Fotografia Europea for the PHOTOGRAPH-ER project in Reggio Emilia. His practice remains characterized by a dual commitment to contemporary documentary inquiry and the meticulous restoration of historical archives.
