Isabelle Aubry's creative work

Isabelle Aubry: Handcrafted Ceramics and Organic Tableware Design

Isabelle Aubry is the artist and founder behind Umà Studio Céramique, a creative workshop located within the cultural café La Riposte in Calmont, France. With a diverse background spanning photography, teaching, publishing, and territorial communication, Isabelle Aubry transitioned from digital work to the tactile world of pottery to focus on creating with her hands. Her artistic practice explores clay as a medium, primarily focusing on utilitarian pieces that marry functional design with an organic aesthetic. The collections produced by Isabelle Aubry are crafted from natural stoneware (grès naturel), known for its durability and robustness. Each piece is unique, featuring variations in shape and hand-applied glazes that produce singular color nuances during the firing process. Her work is often characterized by a palette of soft pastel colors and organic forms, as seen in the signature Nuage collection and various series of cups, plates, and vases. In addition to tableware, the studio produces artistic lighting, including models like the Luminetta and Marella appliques. Beyond her individual creations, Isabelle Aubry is committed to sharing her craft through workshops and stages for adults and children, teaching techniques such as ceramic painting and sculptural construction. Whether collaborating with other artists like Rodney Mott or fulfilling bespoke professional orders, Isabelle Aubry continues to refine her craft, emphasizing the authentic character and irregularities that make each handmade ceramic object a piece of art.
