Yesum Yoon: Contemporary Sculptural Objects and Visual Storytelling

Yesum Yoon is a South Korean artist and storyteller based in Rotterdam and Seoul, known for her unique approach to creating objects of varying scales that take on creature-like forms. Born in 1995, Yesum Yoon weaves her artistic creations together into visual narratives that depict her imaginary landscapes. Her work explores the experiences of cultural nomads, providing a voice to those navigating the constant movement between closures and openings. Having studied Metal Art & Design at Hongik University and Social Design at Design Academy Eindhoven, she combines technical proficiency with conceptual depth. Her portfolio includes projects like Who Is Living In You? and Don't Leave Me Hanging, which often utilize materials like ceramics and metal. Yesum Yoon has been recognized with residencies at INSTITUTO in Porto and Reon in Corfu, and her work is part of collections such as Christian Dior Couture. Her practice is characterized by what she calls thinking hands, a term used to describe her material-led process and visual language, allowing her to express ideas freely while understanding materials in depth.
