Alex Pouliot: Interdisciplinary Artist and Contemporary Sculptor
Alex Pouliot is an interdisciplinary artist based in Montreal (Tiohtià:ke/Mooniyang) whose practice delves into the representation and archiving of feelings through the narrative of the self. Utilizing a rich array of source materials—including personal archives, recordings, found objects, and dreams—Alex Pouliot materializes the impalpable through printed media, sculpture, installation, and performance. Their research is often site-specific, driven by themes of self-healing and the tension between presence and absence. With a Bachelor’s degree in Visual and Media Arts from UQAM and pursuing an MFA in Sculpture at Concordia University, Alex Pouliot has developed a sophisticated approach to material culture and the affective charge of images. Their work has been showcased in prestigious venues such as Fonderie Darling, Galerie de l’UQAM, and Place des Arts. Notable projects include the exhibition FO REVER, which explores the archiving of dreams through acid etching and audio-video projection, and the poetry collection Doucement les corps, published by Les Éditions du Mur. In addition to their solo practice, Alex Pouliot is a significant contributor to the cultural community as a co-founder of Pièce jointe, a non-profit organization and publishing house dedicated to disseminating artist research. Their commitment to exploring the mechanisms of production behind images and memories makes Alex Pouliot a compelling figure in the contemporary art landscape, effectively bridging the gap between intimate experience and the public sphere through attentive and fragile materiality.
