Andrea Khôra: Contemporary New Media Artist and Researcher
Andrea Khôra is a London-based artist and researcher whose interdisciplinary practice explores the intersection of expanded consciousness, technology, and hegemonic institutions. Currently a PhD researcher in the Art Department at Goldsmiths, University of London, Khôra investigates how reality is constructed and manipulated on both personal and societal levels. Her project, Under the Influence: Expanded Technologies of the Mind, maps the tension between transformative mental states and established power structures such as the military-industrial complex, capitalism, and western medical systems. Her creative output includes digital media works like BOLUS, which utilizes AI and animation to emulate the sensory experience of medical ketamine therapy. Other significant projects include RAPTURE, a large-scale installation featuring medical chairs and video, and EXPERIENCING THE CENTURY, a series of manipulated photographic collages that challenge traditional historical narratives by mixing timelines and geographies. By weaving together artistic research and critical writing, Andrea Khôra invites audiences to consider Cognitive Libertarianism—the fundamental right to change one’s own consciousness. Her work has been exhibited internationally at venues including the Jeu de Paume in Paris and the Kunsthalle Wien in Vienna. Khôra’s academic background from the Royal College of Art and her international residency experience in Italy, Iceland, and the United States inform her unique perspective on the malleability of subjective experience.
