Carmen Isasi: Multi-disciplinary Contemporary Visual Art and Installations
Carmen Isasi is a Spanish visual artist, born in Bilbao in 1958 and based in Madrid since 1993. Her career is defined by a commitment to a multi-disciplinary practice that transcends specific styles, focusing instead on a deep exploration of conceptual themes such as identity, collective memory, and the interplay between presence and absence. Carmen Isasi holds a degree in Fine Arts from the University of the Basque Country and a Master’s in Aesthetics and Art Theory from the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid. Her artistic output spans various media, including painting, drawing, printmaking, photography, video art, and site-specific installations. A central element of her work is the investigation of "velar, desvelar, revelar" (to veil, unveil, reveal), which she has explored in numerous international exhibitions. Carmen Isasi often works with the coexistence of material and immaterial elements, specifically focusing on the properties of shadow and the void. Notable projects include the installation "Encuentros con el Azar" and the research-based project "Lo Monstruoso." As a founding member of the cultural association Tres en suma, she has also been an active figure in the Madrid art scene, promoting heterogeneous and contemporary creative practices. Her work continues to evolve through the integration of digital media and virtual reality, maintaining a focus on the subtle tonal qualities and material experimentation that characterize her unique visual language.
