Coffee Foundation – Call Us Crazy! By The Mental Health Association Switzerland
Damien O'Brien is the founder of Coffee Foundation – Call Us Crazy!, a creative social-impact branding and design movement by The Mental Health Association Switzerland. Based in the Vaud region of Switzerland, this award-winning project sits at the intersection of purpose-driven branding, pop design, and mental health advocacy. Drawing from his personal experience living with bipolar disorder, the loss of his mother to suicide, and his brother to addiction, Damien created Coffee Foundation to challenge stigma head-on. The brand uses premium, sustainably sourced specialty coffee as a Trojan horse — turning the everyday ritual of sharing a cup into a safe, natural invitation for open, non-judgmental conversations about mental health. With bold, vibrant pop design aesthetics, Coffee Foundation makes heavy topics approachable and even beautiful. The provocative slogan “Call Us Crazy!” reclaims the word from judgment and transforms vulnerability into strength. Initiatives such as TAKE FIVE encourage people to pause, connect meaningfully, and talk openly. As Switzerland’s first social-cause specialty coffee brand and non-profit movement, Coffee Foundation operates an e-commerce platform with fast delivery across the country. Every purchase directly funds suicide prevention programs and mental health support through high-level art direction, emotional storytelling, community building, and fundraising. Our dream is a world where mental health is treated with the same care and compassion as physical health. And we will fight for it one cup of coffee at a time. Fight with us or just Call Us Crazy.
