Dunia Barrera's creative work

Dunia Barrera: Conceptual Artist and Multidisciplinary Creator

Dunia Barrera is a Madrid-born conceptual artist who lives and works between Munich, Germany, and New Canaan, Connecticut. With a strong background in analog photography—holding a Master from EFTI in Madrid—Barrera has evolved her practice to include collage, sculpture, and installation. Her work investigates the complexities of personal experience, focusing on themes such as womanhood, aging, desire, and the pervasive influence of media. Projects like Poetry of Perception, Burning Desire, and Canned Messages demonstrate her ability to transform everyday objects and monochromatic imagery into new conceptual messages. She utilizes diverse materials, including textiles, ceramics, paper, and wood, allowing the medium itself to drive the narrative of each piece. Dunia Barrera is a member of the Silvermine Guild of Artists and the BBK München Oberbayern. Her work has been exhibited internationally at venues such as Photo España, the Carriage Barn Arts Center, and Silvermine Galleries, and is held in permanent collections including the Anthropology Museum of Madrid. Her art serves as a reflective invitation to examine social roles, perceived reality, and the dynamics of power.
