Emanuel Gollob: Redefining Human-Machine Interaction Through Robotic Art
Emanuel Gollob is a Vienna-based artist and researcher who explores the complex boundaries between human perception and machine intelligence. Born in 1991, Emanuel Gollob graduated from the University of Applied Arts Vienna and is currently a PhD candidate at the University of Arts Linz. His work is characterized by a deep investigation into how robotics and artificial intelligence can be reframed as tools for creative genesis and cognitive exploration. One of his most notable projects, 'Doing Nothing with AI,' utilizes neuroreactive sensors and robotic choreography to support the viewer's mind-wandering process, challenging the modern obsession with efficiency. Similarly, his project 'disarming' explores the emotional and physical detachment between human performers and robotic limbs. Emanuel Gollob has been a guest artist at prestigious institutions such as ZKM | Center for Art and Media and has exhibited globally, including at the Smithsonian Arts + Industries Building and the Art Science Museum Singapore. His practice often bridges the gap between artistic expression and scientific research, incorporating elements of neuroscience and machine learning to create bodily experienceable encounters in semi-public spaces. Through these interactive systems, Emanuel Gollob invites audiences to reflect on their own relationship with digital technology and the changing nature of human experience in a post-anthropocentric world.
