Ginevra Petrozzi: Interdisciplinary Art and Digital Esoterism
Ginevra Petrozzi is an interdisciplinary artist and designer, originally from Rome, Italy, and currently based in The Netherlands. Her practice focuses on digital esoterism, a research-led approach that bridges contemporary technology with ancient mystical traditions. Petrozzi’s work, which includes prominent projects like Digital Esoterism and Congregation of Mysteries, investigates how predictive algorithms, artificial intelligence, and Big Data have assumed the role of modern fate-makers in a digitally regulated cosmos. By reclaiming the archetypal role of the digital witch, she explores how ritualistic practices and magical thinking can serve as potent tools for resistance against surveillance capitalism and data-driven governance. A graduate of Design Academy Eindhoven and a PhD candidate at Eindhoven University of Technology, her work has been exhibited at prestigious institutions including the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam, the National Gallery of Modern and Contemporary Art in Rome, and the Jan van Eyck Academie. Through immersive installations, performances, and critical academic research, Ginevra Petrozzi challenges the perceived objectivity of automated systems, inviting audiences to find new forms of agency and care within our increasingly automated reality. Her work often utilizes everyday technology, such as smartphones, to perform readings that mirror traditional tarot practices, highlighting the occult-like nature of modern algorithmic targeting.
