Joanna Hilton's creative work

Hurtwood is an independent art book publisher. We work with international artists and galleries.

Working at the intersection of contemporary art, design and publishing, Hurtwood collaborates closely with artists, galleries and cultural institutions to produce thoughtfully conceived and beautifully crafted books. An important part of our programme is the Hurtwood Contemporary Artist Series (CAS), an evolving collection of monographs that foreground distinctive artistic voices and rigorous studio practices. Each title is developed in close partnership with the artist, balancing critical writing with considered design and production. Alongside this, our forthcoming Artist & Gallery Series reflects our commitment to exhibition-led publishing, created collaboratively with galleries to accompany significant presentations and milestones. With a heritage that includes three decades operating as a specialist book atelier for international art clients, Hurtwood combines editorial sensitivity with production expertise. In addition to our publishing programme, we undertake bespoke and privately commissioned projects, as well as carefully produced facsimile editions that honour the integrity of original works. We place strong emphasis on concept, materiality, and longevity – producing limited, collector-focused editions and exhibition publications built to endure. Named after the ancient woodland in the Surrey Hills, sustainability and craftsmanship remain at the heart of our philosophy: books made with care, designed to last for generations.
