Heesun Seo | Graphic Designer and Founder of Studio Hik
Heesun Seo is a distinguished graphic designer, artist, and educator whose work traverses the boundaries of visual communication, cultural research, and digital technology. Originally from Seoul and educated internationally—including at the Yale School of Art—Heesun Seo has established a unique practice that questions the traditional definitions of graphic design. As the founder of Studio Hik, a creative practice currently based in Hong Kong, she focuses on art and culture, producing work for exhibitions, publications, and institutional identities. Her artistic inquiry often explores the intersection of human experience and digital evolution, as seen in projects such as Resonance of the Obsolete, which utilizes AI-generated imagery to examine 1990s 3D aesthetics. Beyond her studio work, Heesun Seo plays a pivotal role in the academic and editorial sectors of the art world. She serves as an Assistant Professor at the Academy of Visual Arts at Hong Kong Baptist University and is the Art Director of the renowned ArtAsiaPacific magazine. Her portfolio includes a diverse range of projects, from the exhibition design of Muted Hums to the visual research found in Neighbors and Strangers. Her practice is characterized by an interdisciplinary attitude, often incorporating elements of typography, installation, and visual research to create immersive cultural narratives. Throughout her career, Heesun Seo has demonstrated a remarkable ability to adapt her visual language across various global contexts, from South Korea to the United States and Germany.
