Indigene Art Forms is the art work of Indigene Theresa Gaskin.
Indigene Theresa Gaskin is an Afro-Caribbean American mixed-media artist working primarily with collage. Indigene’s practice is grounded in lived experience, both personal and communal. Using paper, paint, fabric, and found materials, Indigene creates layered compositions that reflect the many dimensions of Black life. Through bold color, rich texture, and unexpected pairings, Indigene’s work captures joy, tenderness, resilience, and complexity all at once. By bringing together materials not traditionally meant to coexist, Indigene mirrors the layered realities of the stories being told. Indigene’s work offers honest reflections on living in a Black body and seeks to create connection in a world that often prioritizes separation. Indigene’s work has exhibited nationally and internationally. She has been widely published.
