Lab212: Interdisciplinary Art Collective and Interactive Media Design

Lab212 is a Paris-based interdisciplinary art collective established in 2008 by a group of graduates from the Media & Interaction Design program at Les Gobelins. The collective consists of artists, designers, and developers who collaborate to create interactive installations, kinetic sculptures, and immersive sensory experiences. Their practice focuses on exploring human perception of space, sound, and natural phenomena through the use of digital technology and physical materiality. Notable projects by Lab212 include Starfield, an interactive journey through a virtual cosmos; Cyclique, a light installation inspired by wind and landscape; and Passifolia, a large-scale organic environment made of interactive modules. The group often uses light, sound beams, and motion sensors to transform viewers into active participants within their work. Over the years, Lab212 has gained international recognition, exhibiting at prestigious institutions like the Barbican Centre, the V&A Museum, and Centre Pompidou. They have received numerous accolades, including awards from the Sundance Film Festival, Ars Electronica, and the Lumen Prize. By maintaining a horizontal collaborative structure, the collective continues to push the boundaries of new media art, addressing critical perspectives on technology and environmental fragile contexts through rigorous artistic research and experimentation.
