Laura Olohan's creative work

Laura Olohan | Contemporary Painting & Visual Arts

Laura Olohan is a contemporary artist based in London, whose practice is deeply rooted in the exploration of the ordinary and the domestic. Her work primarily utilizes Old Holland oil paints on linen, a choice that emphasizes the tangibility and texture of the painted surface. Olohan’s artistic inquiry focuses on finding "presence within absence," often depicting objects or disruptions in space that suggest a human presence without directly showing the individual. This conceptual framework allows her to use the domestic environment as a meditation on grief and the physical spaces that hold memory. A graduate of the Royal College of Art (RCA) in London, Olohan has exhibited her work in various notable contexts, including the RCA Graduate Show 2025 and the Beep Painting Biennial 2024. Her background includes early influences from her upbringing in a Welsh seaside town, which informed her understanding of space and mark-making. Olohan’s paintings are designed to operate on two visual levels, capturing interest from a distance while revealing complex volumes of detail upon closer inspection. Through her archive of moments and everyday disruptions, she invites spectators to complete the work through their own interpretation and engagement.
