Liz Wilson's creative work

Liz Wilson | New Media Art & Post-Industrial Automation

Liz Wilson is a contemporary visual artist based in Kent, UK, whose practice is characterized by a deep investigation into the shifting boundaries between industrial and post-industrial landscapes. A graduate of the Royal College of Art with a Masters in Fine Art, she utilizes site visits to manufacturing hubs and industrial environments as a catalyst for research and creation. Her work frequently explores the concept of the 'conductor' and 'orchestra' within the context of human-machine interaction, highlighting how automation alters our perceptions of time and labour. Major projects such as Within the Wake and The Orchestrated Unconscious demonstrate her ability to synthesize print, sound, sculpture, and video into immersive environments. She has been awarded prestigious commissions, including the first digital art commission for the National Festival of Making's Art in Manufacturing and has collaborated with manufacturers like Hitachi Rail Ltd and CNC Robotics. Her exhibition history includes international venues such as the Taoxichuan Museum of Art in China and Parc de la Villette in Paris. Her multi-disciplinary approach allows her to examine the rhythm and gravitas of machines, transitioning industrial objects from the physical to the virtual realm while exploring the resulting recalibrations of reality.
