Maria Fragoudaki: Contemporary Multidisciplinary Visual Artist
Maria Fragoudaki is a contemporary visual artist whose work encompasses painting, sculpture, performance, and large-scale installation. With a practice rooted in both Athens and New York City, Maria Fragoudaki investigates the boundaries between different media and the concept of haptic perception. Her artistic evolution, influenced by the Process art movement, reflects a shift from the application of paint to an exploration of the material itself. Using non-traditional elements like industrial fabric, string, latex, and marble, she creates tactile experiences that invite viewers to engage with the physical world in new ways. Her education at Central Saint Martins and the School of Visual Arts in New York provided a foundation for her experimental and research-driven approach. Maria Fragoudaki has exhibited internationally at major venues including the Jewish Museum of Greece and Athens International Airport, as well as art fairs like Scope Miami and Art Southampton. Her series, such as BedSheets and FORM/LESS, examine themes of freedom and the emotional impact of visual experience. By integrating three-dimensional sculptural elements into her paintings, she reveals hidden forms and unexpected narratives. Her work continues to challenge conventional perceptions of materiality and space through a unique visual language focused on the sense of touch.
