Mary Verspoor: Handcrafted Furniture and Contemporary Decorative Art
Mary Verspoor is a designer and the co-owner of Craft District, specializing in the creation of handcrafted contemporary furniture and decorative objects. Based in Bali, Indonesia, Mary Verspoor works closely with an in-house team of skilled craftsmen to produce unique, one-off, and limited edition pieces. Her design philosophy is rooted in "slow furniture" making, a process that prioritizes high-quality materials, longevity, and environmental responsibility. Mary Verspoor utilizes reclaimed teak and other responsibly sourced tropical hardwoods, accentuating the natural, imperfect beauty of these materials to create authentic, functional art. Her inspirations are drawn from both nature and sculpture, resulting in a portfolio that includes distinctive items such as the Bulan Tray, Uma Table, and Nusa High Console. The work of Mary Verspoor has gained international recognition, with collections featured at Lane Crawford in Hong Kong and the Aman New York. Committed to sustainability, Mary Verspoor integrates eco-friendly practices throughout her studio's production, including energy and water conservation and the elimination of single-use plastics.
