Mathias Malm's creative work

Mathias Malm - Innovative Designer of Algorithmic and Natural Forms

Mathias Malm is a Norwegian-born designer based in Stockholm and Copenhagen whose multidisciplinary practice investigates the relationship between technological innovation and natural growth principles. A graduate of the Design Academy Eindhoven, Mathias Malm employs algorithmic technology to generate complex, asymmetrical forms that pay homage to mathematical representations found in the natural world. His work, which ranges from sculptural art to functional objects like the Specie chair, often utilizes a digital genome derived from organic structures, such as bleached corals, to comment on environmental fragility and human exceptionalism. By blending digital production with traditional crafting expertise, Mathias Malm creates pieces that appear both strange and evocative, challenging the boundary between the manufactured and the organic. His work has been exhibited at major international platforms including Milan Design Week, Dutch Design Week, and the Stockholm Furniture Fair. Through his studio practice, Mathias Malm continues to explore how computational design can emulate the infinite creativity of nature while addressing modern issues of sustainability and the exhaustion of natural resources. His aesthetic reflects a deep connection to the outdoors, translated through the lens of modern design and algorithmic precision.
