Maxim Brandt Contemporary Narrative Painting and Surrealism

Maxim Brandt is a contemporary figurative artist based in Berlin, Germany, known for his unique approach to narrative painting and surrealism. Born in 1986 in Kerch, Ukraine, Brandt studied at the Muthesius Academy of Fine Arts and Design in Kiel, earning both a Bachelor and Master of Fine Arts. His artistic practice focuses on the creation of an absurd poetic reality, where everyday objects and motifs are deconstructed and recombined into dream-like, often mysterious compositions. Brandt’s process frequently involves using computer-generated photomontages as foundations for his oil paintings, which he then transforms through careful manipulation of light, color, and texture. His works often feature recurring natural elements like forests and landscapes, serving as settings for surreal encounters that explore the intersection of memory, creation, and the subconscious. Having exhibited extensively in Germany and internationally, including solo and group shows in Denmark and France, Maxim Brandt has developed a distinct visual language that invites viewers to find personal reflections within his atmospheric and highly detailed canvases. His work bridges the gap between the familiar and the irrational, establishing him as a significant voice in modern German contemporary art.
