Memos to Make Sense of Us Digital Community Project

Memos to Make Sense of Us is an experimental digital project developed by Behalf Studio, a creative studio based in Saigon, Vietnam. The project functions as a virtual mailbox and interactive space where individuals can connect with strangers through a continuous chain of anonymous messages. By speculative design and creative coding, Memos to Make Sense of Us makes visible the intangible bonds formed within a community through shared presence and emotion. Each interaction is treated as a metonymy for experience, where individual presence is interlaced to re-assess the broader context of communal existence. Supported by RMIT University and featuring typography from Approximate Type, the project utilizes generative coding to represent human emotions visually. This digital experience encourages deep reflection on interdependence, empathy, and the subtle dynamics of human connection in an increasingly distant world. Through this conceptual framework, Behalf Studio invites participants to engage in a unique digital dialogue, fostering a sense of shared humanity and collective storytelling across borders. The project has been recognized for its innovative approach to digital media and community building, blending technology with emotional resonance.
