Myeongin Shin's creative work

narratology Design | Product & Interdisciplinary Design

narratology is an interdisciplinary design studio founded by Myeongin Shin, working across product design, collectible objects, and sculptural furniture. Based in Hamburg, Germany, the studio explores how objects can communicate cultural meaning through material, form, and use. narratology focuses on ceramics and furniture as primary media, treating materials not only as functional matter but as carriers of process, time, and human labor. The studio’s work often reveals hidden structures, construction logic, and gestures of making, allowing the production process itself to become part of the design language. Rooted in hands on experimentation, narratology combines traditional craftsmanship with precise technical methods, moving between studio making, prototyping, and small series production. The design philosophy centers on quiet narratives, ethical awareness of production, and a balance between functionality and sculptural presence. Key interests include material research, cultural rituals of use, and the relationship between maker and user. In addition to authorial projects, narratology offers design services including product and object design, material driven concept development, prototyping, and collaborations with galleries, brands, and cultural institutions.
