Natalie Foss | Colorful Pencil Illustration and Contemporary Portrait Art
Natalie Foss is a Norwegian freelance illustrator and artist based between Oslo and London. She graduated with a BA Hons in illustration from Kingston University in 2013 and previously studied at the Strykejernet School of Art in Oslo. Specializing primarily in colored pencils on paper, Natalie Foss is widely recognized for her use of vibrant, bold colors and her focus on capturing human emotions and expressions. Her creative universe is often described as whimsical, blending flat graphic styles with detailed three-dimensional elements. One of the signature aspects of her work is the inclusion of poetic 1960s and 70s inspired patterns that often adorn the clothes of her figures. Natalie Foss works across a variety of fields, from commercial commissions for high-profile clients like Penguin Random House, Rolling Stone magazine, ITV, and New Scientist, to editorial projects for Bandcamp and Food & Wine. She also engages in personal projects and gallery exhibitions, exploring themes such as nature, symmetry, and the cycles of life and death. Her portfolio includes diverse applications like book covers, posters, tarot cards, and surface design. Drawing inspiration from music, subcultures, and everyday observations, Natalie Foss creates a distinct personal iconography that navigates the space between the real and the surreal.
