Pollygarden | Handcrafted Ceramics and Artistic Tableware Design
Pollygarden is a contemporary ceramic studio located in Seoul, South Korea, co-founded by artists Min-Jeong Kim and Joo-Ah Hong. The studio is defined by its exploration of the intersection between two-dimensional painting and three-dimensional ceramic forms. Drawing inspiration from flat illustrations and intuitive sketches, the creators reinvent these concepts into dimensional objects that function as both practical decorations and expressive sculptures. A hallmark of Pollygarden's work is the application of Yeonlimun, a traditional Korean technique involving the intricate layering of colored clays to produce marble and patchwork patterns. This method ensures that every piece—whether it is a Paper Mug, a Ruffle Bowl, or an Egg Bowl—is entirely unique, bearing the distinct marks of hand-shaping and artisanal glazing. The studio’s philosophy centers on imbuing daily objects with a sense of individuality and warmth, encouraging users to find meaning in the tactile and visual qualities of their tableware. Since its establishment in 2018, Pollygarden has gained recognition for its innovative use of material and color, contributing a fresh perspective to the Korean ceramic scene. Their collections frequently feature vibrant stripes, checks, and organic marbled textures that elevate the aesthetic of living spaces. By blending fine art backgrounds with rigorous ceramic craftsmanship, Kim and Hong continue to push the boundaries of functional art.
